Hobbies vs Corporate life

Before I became a mom I had so many interests and hobbies! I loved fashion and enjoyed thrifting, styling, modeling and photography. It was much easier to pursue hobbies and interest on a low budget that consisted of just me. I could irresponsibly spend my electric bill money on a thrifted vintage coat or forget to come home because I was on a spur of the moment vacation. A lot of carefree but driven moments in my 20’s.

I was working in retail when I found out I was pregnant and I immediately felt like I needed to do something different. Long and late retail hours weren’t going to cut it for my new mom journey, I wanted a 9-5 office job. So I traded in my booty shorts and crop tops for blazers, trousers and Target flats.

Find a Balance

It didn't take me very long before I realized how drained and unhappy I was becoming. I was no longer my fun and adventurous self. I was always paranoid about what I shared on social media and how it might get back to my job. I struggled for a long time with finding the balance and confidence to still do all of the things I enjoyed. I couldn't decide if I wanted to fully pursue a corporate life or focus back on my own interests.

So I had to find a balance. Slowly but surely I have started to make time for myself so that I can feel passionate about all of my interests again. I use to convince myself that I was drained at the end of each day and therefore I was unable to do anything for myself. Now, I plan ahead and prioritize my hobbies into my schedule so that when each day comes, I have something to work towards and look forward to.
